Goal Zero Yeti 200X Portable Power Station
Josh Miller/July 2020
The Goal Zero Yeti 200X Portable Power Station is simply a must-have, unless you’re backpacking of course! Mine is going on three years old and continues to keep a multitude of devices charged on multi-day camping trips. Keep in mind I have a 13-year old daughter. Gone are the days of her and I heading out, just us, into wild with no devices. Instead, she now must have at least one friend go along and sometimes a second. Add to this they each have a smart phone and often 1-2 iPad’s among them.
This $299.95 portable power station fully lives up to its claim of portability. It measures 7.9 x 5.1 x 5.1-inches. Within that space, the Goal Zero has squeezed in a pair of 2.4A USB Type-A ports, an 18W USB-C port, a 60W USB-C PD port, a 12V port, a 6mm 12V port and a 120V AC outlet that can handle a 200W surge.
I’ve long since upgraded from the ground tent to a Taxa Tigermoth Habitat which has been incredible. We have one 12-volt battery in the camper and it runs things well. Even with camper battery power I still require the daughter and her colleagues to use the Goal Zero Yeti to keep their devices charged. I run an ARB refrigerator freezer and lights and do not want them tapping into the trailer power until the Yeti power is exhausted. To date, I’ve yet to hit 0% on the digital Yeti readout. If you have a pre-teen/teen kid, you know they live for their devices and keeping them charged is paramount. I’ve listened to them compare how much battery life they have left. Don’t ask me, kind of a dumb conversation, but they talk about that stuff.
We’ve gone on a variety of excursions roughly four days in length. The longest was a six day trip to Zion and surrounding areas. And yes, me and three little girls. They charged their devices the entire time via the Yeti and never used the trailer power source.
What will this little power-pack charge:
- Smartphone about 20 Recharges
- Headlamp about 35 Recharges
- Camera about 35 Recharges
- Tablet about 5 Recharges
- Laptop about 4 Recharges
- Plug in your 12V Portable Fridge and you’ll get about 10+ Hours
All in all the value for this little guy is exemplary. Check out the listing here on Amazon!
