NiteRider Lumina Dual 1800 Rechargeable Twin LED Bike Light
Josh Miller/February 2021
My love affair with mountain biking started in the early 90’s on a hard tail Trek. It lasted a few years, we moved to Arizona, and in 2007 I purchased a dual suspension Santa Cruz 26″, just as the 29″ revolution was taking off. After several years on the SC I jumped onto my first 29’er, a Trek Fuel 7 and life has been dandy. Riding was even better when I discovered that night rides offered a whole other view of the trails and the riding experience differed completely than the day rides. After borrowing for a few rides I decided it was time to get my own.
After some research and talking to other riders I settled on the NiteRider Lumina Dual 1800 Rechargeable light. This thing is bright, even at its lowest setting. In Boost Mode this jewel cranks out 1800 lumens. It won’t last nearly as long as in the lower settings but it helps if navigating a techy section of your favorite trail. There is a fast 3 hour charge via the included AC power charging adapter and in Walk Mode it will stay burning for 20 hours. In Low Mode at 350 lumens you can ride for about six hours if you are so inclined. There is solid peripheral lighting too so you can avoid that overreaching brush on the trail. This one mounts to my handlebar and a second Niterider single lamp is worn on my helmet. The big one lights the trail and my helmet mount lights up where I’m looking.
There are 5 Light Levels plus 2 Daylight Flash Modes and the body is a FL1 Standard IP64, dust and water-resistant aluminum housing. Whether you’re looking for your first light or an upgrade, this Niterider is something to consider.
